Tooth Jewelry

You must be aware of the saying, “Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.” The need or the need for beauty has existed since ancient times. Earlier, the definition of beauty was based on the traditions set by ancestors and the rituals performed by a particular community. Whereas today, the standards of beauty are set by movie stars or famous personalities. What they wear or the changes in their appearance are quickly imitated by millions of people. Today, people are becoming more and more conscious about their appearance and smile. They are turning towards various treatments like body art and cosmetic dental treatments to achieve the desired aesthetic appearance, make a fashion statement and stand out in the crowd. This increases the self-confidence of the person.

An attractive smile is an important aspect of personality that should be created according to the needs and desires of the individual. Dentistry has also changed a lot over time, having come a long way from its primary purpose of curing oral diseases and the pain associated with them to beautification. With the invention of cosmetic dental treatments like porcelain veneers, bleaching and tooth jewelry, there are many options available to make patients' smiles more pleasing, attractive and aesthetic.

Nowadays, various ornaments are placed on the teeth and in some parts of the mouth, mainly including grill jewelry, shiny veneer jewelry, dental rings and studs, studs placed on the tongue, cheeks or lips, etc. It is certainly not a new concept, but it has been around since 2500BC (Before Christ). The people of the Mayan civilization were skilled in placing beautifully carved stone objects in precisely prepared cavities in the teeth. Interestingly, men of that time were more interested in decorating their teeth than women.

Tooth Jewelry - It is an ornament placed on the front of your teeth that makes your smile attractive and your personality fashionable. Its trend is mostly seen among youth and women. Jewelry can be worn permanently or on a temporary basis and the process of wearing it is very easy, quick and painless. It also does not involve any invasive treatment that can cause permanent damage to the teeth. Such gems or crystals can be worn on special occasions like Navratri, birthdays, wedding anniversaries and can be removed later. Patients also demand to change them on time according to the changing fashion trends. Most of the time such creations are fake but sometimes there is a tendency for enthusiasts to wear real diamonds or colorful gems. If the mere thought of a diamond, red ruby, or blue sapphire sparkling from the corner of one's mouth is a source of joy, just imagine how much joy it must bring to the person wearing it!

Tooth Tattoo: Tooth tattoo is a process of applying various designs of porcelain in different shades and attaching it to a ceramic cap. It is a personal decoration and an alternative to body tattooing. But it is an invasive procedure in which the tooth has to be cut as per the requirement to attach the cap to the tooth.

Natural tooth jewelry: Animal teeth have been used as jewelry since ancient times. Shark, tiger and elephant teeth are commonly used, but today even human teeth are attached to pendants and finger rings. Some people even wear their teeth as pendants by getting them gold plated. One mother even had her children's milk teeth converted into jewelry.

Dental jewelry is believed to enhance appearance and in doing so, boost the patient's confidence. We generally recommend dental jewelry only to individuals who can maintain good oral hygiene. Dentists generally only place dental jewelry after discussing the potential risks of this treatment with patients, as well as recommendations for hygiene and maintenance. I personally am not in favor of placing jewelry in lip, cheek, or tongue piercings because of the risk of infection. Patients wearing dental jewelry should have regular dental check-ups.
